Biases are preconceived notions and predispositions that are deeply ingrained in every person. They are the result of cultural priming, learning, personal experiences and individual development. We are hardwired to default to use schemas and mental models to process and sort information in a way that makes sense to us.
Schemas are simple templates of references, information, experience and knowledge. Mental models are set of rules.
Unconscious bias may create barriers to interacting effectively with differences, create cultural bias pathways in hiring, promotional practices and inhibit an inclusive, effective workplace.
